Barrhill hosts Regional Schools Champs

Barrhill Plantation hosted the Regional Schools Orienteering Championships at the end of March.

Hosted by Solway Orienteers, the competition was open to all pupils in the region and was enjoyed by more than 150 enthusiastic children. With cool, dry weather, P5 and P6 children ran a white course, where the P5 pairs section was won by Poppy Sinden and Dylan McRobert. Second were Fraser Roan and Andrew Roan, with Brodie Lee and Dominik Dekowski third. P6 pairs was won by Conor Rennie and Lewis Hutchings, with Arthur Boland and Noah Crudgington second and Max Hannay and Freya Fenton third.

For the P6 girls, first was S Gilston, second was Gabriella Hamlet and Grace Clement third. In the P6 boys, Zac McCalley came first and Yasim Boam second.

On a yellow course, P7 pairs winners were Jack Findlay and Ed Hanna, with Jake Higgins and Shane Cluckie second. Fraser Murray and Robbie Scott cam third. The P7 girls race was won by Robyn Brett with Mariena Murray second and Grace Byrne third, while in P7 boys Rory Youngman took the win ahead of Finley Scott and Euan Green, who came second and third respectively.

Also on the yellow course, Lisa Cruickshanks won the S1/2 girls race with Aimee Harkness second and Morven Thom third. In S1/2 boys, Keir Paterson was fastest ahead of Sean Findlay and Matthew O’Hagan.

On an orange course, S3/4 girls was won by Isla O’Donoghue with Jordana Hall second. S3/4 boys was won by Edward Christie, with John McKay second and Douglas Copeman third.

S5/6 girls completed a light green course, which was won by Zoe Graham ahead of Hannah Mortlock and Maya Saunders. S5/6 Boys completed the same course, with Fraser Cruickshanks first, ahead of Angus Thom and Fraser McKillop.
