SOA offers coaching, first aid and free young leader courses

Scottish Orienteering is offering a range of courses this summer, for young and old across the country who’d like to improve their leading, coaching and first aid skills.

The first will be a coaching foundation course in Edinburgh on May 31, followed by a Level 1 Coaching course from June 1-2. Next up will be a free Young Leader course at Glenmore Lodge on June 8.

Last year Scottish Orienteering launched the new Young Leader course aimed at giving youngsters, aged 14+, an opportunity to develop early coaching and instructional skills that can be put into practice to help run school or club activities and coaching. It is a fun, practical training course delivered over one day.

There is no charge for SOA youngsters to attend the course so youngsters are encouraged to sign up. As well as the Glenmore day, another course will be run at the Strathearn 6 Days on July 31 and in Deeside on August 24.

Also in summer will be a one-day first aid course at the Strathearn 6-days, which will be repeated in Edinburgh on October 12. A two-day first aid course will follow at Glenmore Lodge on November 9, after a Level 2 Coaching course at Glenmore Lodge on November 2.
