Celebrating Volunteers – Day 1 – Inverness Orienteering Club

With Volunteers’ Week taking place from 1-7 June, through our website we’re celebrating many of the volunteers who help make orienteering in Scotland great. The first club to highlight two of their volunteers was Inverness Orienteering Club, so thank you to their volunteers Jenny Hall and Dave Summer!

INVOC volunteer profiles

Volunteer’s Name:

Dave Summers

Dave Summers

How long have they been a club member?

Years and years!

How do they support the club and orienteering?

Dave takes on committee roles (he’s currently Vice-president & Club Captain and previously has been President and Secretary), as well as being a Level B controller, Planner, and reservoir of knowledge about the club’s history, previous practices and relationship with the SOA and other clubs!

What makes them shine as a volunteer?

Dave can always be relied on to contribute to the club’s fixture list each year as a controller, planner, mentor and SI official.  He will often take on the difficult planning and controlling tasks and recently broadened his skills as an SI lead at events.

Volunteer’s Name:

Jenny Hall

How long have they been a club member?

6 years

How do they support the club and orienteering?

Jenny is a Committee member, schools series coordinator, organiser, SI computing lead at events and one half of the team management for North Area (though the other half is absent at the moment, so she is the only person)

What makes them shine as a volunteer?

Jenny’s quiet efficiency, willingness to take on coordinating roles and to get things done!

A huge thank you to both of them! We’ll be profiling other volunteers throughout the week and if you want to make sure your club highlights the work of volunteers, please email denise@scottish-orienteering.org.
