Celebrating Volunteers – Day 7 Part 1 – Edinburgh University Orienteering Club

Throughout the week we’ve celebrated many of the volunteers who make orienteering events across Scotland special and we’re starting off the final day of Volunteers’ Week by thanking Edinburgh University Orienteering Club’s Ali Masson and Laura King!

How do they support the club and orienteering?

This year Laura took on the role of Big Weekend coordinator. This weekend is a massive fundraiser for the club and also a big event in the orienteering calendar. Coordinator is a really important role and involves a lot of time and dedication. Thanks to Laura the weekend was a great success.

What makes them shine as a volunteer?

Laura is enthusiastic and dedicated to the club and puts her all into every role she takes on. She has now taken over the role as captain and we are excited to see what great ideas she brings to the club.

Ali Masson

How long have they been a club member?

4 years

How do they support the club and orienteering?

Ali has volunteered for many roles in the club such as coach and this year as vice-captain. Ali is an excellent asset to the club. As vice-captain he organises all our weekend trips away.

He also goes out of his way to help the club by driving the mini buses and contributing greatly to the organisation and running of Big Weekend.

What makes them shine as a volunteer?

Ali gives up so much of his time to the club. He goes above and beyond his role in the club and has made the club a great club to be a part of.

A huge thank you to both of them! We’re profiling volunteers throughout the week and if you want to make sure your club highlights the work of volunteers, please email denise@scottish-orienteering.org.
