Jamie Stevenson Trophy 2019 Report
An impressive 110 Junior orienteers from all over Scotland converged on Kingussie on Sunday 9th June for the Jamie Stevenson competition – the annual junior inter-club competition, where juniors from all Scottish clubs battle it out for their club to be crowned champions.
The competition started off with its traditional parade of teams, complete with flags, mascots, face paints and even a talking chicken! It was then time for the serious competition to begin, with yellow, orange, light green and green courses on offer in Glen Gynack.
There were prizes for the first three boys and girls on each course. There were also lots of spot prizes awarded throughout the competition with just about every junior being a lucky winner. The winning club is calculated using a scoring system where the winner in each class gets 100 points, 2nd place gets 99 points, and so on, then each club’s best 6 scores are added up to find their total.
It was a very closely fought competition, with only 2 points between the top 2 teams. Mar Orienteering Club scored 595 points and emerged victorious to retain the trophy for yet another year. Moravian came 2nd with 593 points and Inverness Orienteering Club were 3rd with 588.

Junior competitions are great fun and are as much about the fun and making friends as the orienteering. They are a great way to meet lots of other junior orienteers from clubs all over Scotland.
So put the weekend of 9th/10th November into your diary – as this is the Scottish Junior Inter Area competition, where clubs join into area teams – North, East and West. This is a fun weekend with relays and individual races and an overnight stay with fun and games aplenty.
