Scottish West Area Team squad takes off!

The newly formed Scottish West Area Team squad – also known as the “SWAT” squad – has taken off with over 30 juniors from the west area of Scotland signed up to enjoy training on how to improve orienteering skills.

SWAT is a development squad for all West Area juniors at orange level and above. The aim is to improve skills and also provide a chance for juniors from different clubs across the west to get to know each other and have some fun time too.  Mostly there will be day training events and then some residential weekends.   There is also training available for parents/adults at the day events and we would be delighted to hear from coaches, parents and other adults who want to help in any way.

Juniors have signed up from AYROC, CLYDE, ECKO, and FVO, with TAY also making use of the training for their members. The first session held at Auchingarrich in September saw more than 20 juniors work on skills at orange, light green and green level. Adults also worked on their skills.

As well as improving orienteering skills the squad is about having fun and enjoying other activities together. This weekend saw the juniors building towers and thinking about a logo for the squad too.

The SWAT squad also enjoys activities indoors.

The next session is 26th October at Kippen.
