Inter-Clubs Double Success in Inverness and Cumbernauld

The 2022 Scottish Inter-Clubs Championship continued its successful campaign, with events in Inverness and Cumbernauld over the last two weekends.

With many of the top athletes occupied at the British Championships in Buckinghamshire and the Northern Championships in Northumberland, there was an opportunity for those who remained at home to boost their points total, as INVOC staged a regional forest race at Craig Leach, followed by STAG’s Scottish Urban Orienteering League fixture in western Cumbernauld.

STAG hosted a SOUL at Cumbernauld on 3rd April

INVOC was able to fill its second junior team with scorers, and establish a strongly-founded third team following the Craig Leach event, while Angus Laird even managed to get back to Inverness in time to run, having won the bronze medal in the British Championships the previous day.

STAG’s SOUL saw the host club move to within eight runs of the top of the Small Clubs division, while there were significant gains for both CLYDE and INT at the event.

There’s no major changes at the head of either league; ESOC continues to head the Large Clubs division, but has seen its lead cut to 15,000 points. INT remains in 3rd place, and MOR becomes the fourth club to log 100,000 points for the season. RR has a lead of 3000 points over ELO at the top of the Small Clubs division, although both clubs are scoring at exactly the same rate, so this is one battle which will go right down to the wire.

There’s also no change in the composition of the League MVPs, with the same eleven (thanks to a tie for 10th place between Rudi Paul (STAG) and Finlay McLuckie (MOR))keeping their leading places, although ESOC duo Margaret Dalgleish and Helena Nolan moved up one place each in the standings following the Cumbernauld urban race.

League tables after 14 events can be found here. There’s now a small delay before the next event in the series, due to Easter holidays and the Jan Kjellstrom Festival of Orienteering, in Wales, and the next SICC event will be another SOUL, this time hosted by MAROC, in Banchory on 1st May.
