2023 Inter-club Championships determined at the last Urban League (SOUL) event

Last weekend, Saturday 2nd December, saw the 11th and final Scottish Orienteering Urban League event of the year hosted by Interlopers Orienteering Club (INT) in Livingston . With a dusting of snow meaning that there were no concerns about ice out on the course, those hardy souls got to enjoy running around some parts of Livingston which have not been used for years.

The final results of the 2023 SOUL series can be found here. There are trophies for those winning the various age categories of the SOUL series and it’s sister series the Scottish Orienteering League (SOL) but no medals as was reported in the most recent SOA newsletter.

The event in Livingston also meant the conclusion to this year’s Scottish Inter-Club Championship. The Inter-Club Championship allows clubs to compete over the year in either a small or large club category with senior and junior members competing for different sections of the event. Events are chosen to allow a geographical spread. The cancellation of two of the planned events meant that it was the best of 10 events this year rather than the one a month as planned.

Forth Valley Orienteering Club (FVO) managed to retain the Senior and Junior Large Clubs title despite the best efforts of Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club (ESOC) in the Senior section and Inverness Orienteering Club (INVOC) and Moravian Orienteering Club (MOR) in the Junior section.

In the senior small clubs, it went down to the wire with Edinburgh University Orienteering Club just pipping Clydeside Orienteering Club (CLYDE) with less than one point per run over the whole season.

In the junior small clubs, Ayrshire Orienteering Club (AYROC) held off Loch Eck Orienteering Club (ECKO) and Tayside Orienteering Club (TAY) to win.

Full details of the scoring of the Scottish Inter-Club Championships can be found here.

The two trophies for the winning Senior clubs and the chocolates for the Juniors club winners will be awarded at the Big Weekend in Edinburgh.
