Young Leaders

Juniors – are you a keen orienteer who would like to start getting involved in volunteering?  Club volunteer coordinators – do you ever struggle to find event officials?  Coaches – do you want a pair of young legs to help you out?

SOA Young Leader courses are all designed to give juniors the knowledge & experience to get involved with volunteering in the club, easing the load whilst giving them new, transferable skills.  Run by experts who have worked in the roles for many years, we have 3 areas of expertise – hopefully something to suit everyone:

Young Coach Assistant

A fun, one day practical course preceded by a short orientation session online, it equips youngsters aged 14 + to help a coach by taking on the following roles:

Setting up exercises, including planning if confident

Meet and greet activities

Shadowing or debriefing athletes during the session      

Running part of the session e.g. a warm up, game or cool down

Young Planner

A series of 3 online workshops with an optional Purple Pen /Condes workshop, this equips youngsters aged 12+ to undertake all the necessary activities to plan up to TD3/4, depending on their own experience, under the supervision of a mentor.

Young Organiser

A series of 2 online workshops with mentored, club-based, tasks in between, this course equips youngsters aged 16+ to assist an organiser by taking on or helping with roles such as:

designing an eye catching flyer

setting up a simple start

planning and putting out taping and signage

setting up the registration/download area

managing social media posts
