Sprint Scotland 2018

The races were varied in character, with Race 1 being a twist on the normal Scottish housing estate – with the estate being on a slope, and some tricky controls in the open area to finish catching out a lot of people.

Race 2 was more about route choice, but still with some very fiddly parts. Unlike Race 1, choosing bad routes was likely to cost you a lot of time, and you still had to execute them well as well.

Race 3 was more about fast running and keeping your concentration round the various parts of Grangemouth. Many people (including Kris Jones!) were caught out by the tricky first controls straight after the start.

Overall elite winners were Kris Jones, who is looking in top shape coming into the World Champs this year, and Maja Alm, the 3 times World Champion in Sprint orienteering. The weekend was a great opportunity for Scottish juniors (and seniors!) to meet some world superstars, and there was plenty of autograph hunting and selfie-getting going on!

We were very lucky to get prizes provided by Fenland Runner, Silva and CompassPoint, and the winners in each class also received a bespoke hand-made print of the Falkirk Kelpies. Watch the video here

Sprint Scotland was organised by Masterplan Adventure, and will return in 2019.
