Megan Keith (INVOC) wins gold at European Youth Champs!

The weekend kicked off with a tricky sprint race on Friday around the medieval fortress in the old town. Megan Keith (INVOC), competing for the first time at this level, had an incredible run winning the W16 gold medal by a massive 34s over the next competitor! This is an amazing achievement and GB’s first ever EYOC female gold medal! The others put in great runs in fields of around 100 all easily making top 35 (see below for all results).

Next up was the long distance race on Saturday at Miikovtsi. The forest was tough and green with large spurs and valleys. Best results of the day came from the M16s with Peter Molloy (FVO) and Matthew Gooch (MAROC) coming 15th and 16th respectively and also competing at this level for the first time.

A relay rounded off the events on Sunday at Petropalovski Monastery. For the M16s it wasn’t Matthew’s day and he unfortunately mis-punched on leg one but the team carried on and Peter (on 2nd) gained some places. For the W16s Megan had another good run on 1st leg coming back in 6th, Lizzie Stansfield (FVO) was on 2nd (in their incomplete team) and, after finding the terrain tricky after a long weekend came back in 22nd with a small pack of girls. Eilidh Campbell (MAROC) was in the W18 team on last leg. After some good results in the previous races, she had the fastest run of the team and brought the girls up to 13th place overall.

Well done to all of the Scots competing this weekend, they performed well in some difficult conditions (terrain and weather!) and should be as proud of their achievements as we are!
