Performance and the Scottish Elite and Development Squad (SEDS)
The Scottish Elite and Development Squad (SEDS) helps Scottish-based orienteering athletes to reach their potential, and promotes top quality training which is open to all aspiring elite athletes. It also offers an opportunity for ScotJOS leavers and orienteers aged between 20 – 39 to stay in the sport and develop their skills with a programme of coaching and social trips. Some members of SEDS go on the represent Scotland and Team GB at International in Scotland to reach their potential, and runs top quality training weekends which are open to all aspiring elite orienteers. Some members of SEDS go on to represent Team GB at international orienteering competitions.
Senior Home International
The pinnacle of the year for the Scottish Orienteering Performance Programme is the Senior Home International, when a Scotland team competes against the teams from England, Ireland and Wales with an individual race and a relay race over one weekend in autumn. The team is chosen by a selection panel managed by the Performance Director based on a selection policy which can be found here
Current selectors are the Performance Manager, Jon Musgrave and Lorna Eades (tbc).
Interested in joining SEDS ?
SEDS is an open group, and anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to join. To benefit, you should be comfortable running full technical difficulty (TD5) courses (i.e. this is not aimed at beginners or improvers). Training activities primarily take place in Scotland, but we occasionally venture further afield in the UK or Europe.
Interested in coaching or helping out ?
We would love to hear from you! We need volunteers to help plan and hang sessions, as well as snayone willing to help with logistics, admin, driving or even just cooking! This is a great way to develop your coaching and advice and assistance is available.
