SOA are pleased to publish our guidance across the new 5 levels of tiered local restrictions. With the support of sportscotland, we have approval for the continuation of local orienteering events and activities across Scotland with consideration and compliance with Scottish Government guidelines. We want to encourage all clubs and members to ‘Keep Active. Keep Local’.
Following consultation with sportscotland we have been given permission to continue with our existing guidelines that allow local/regional events, club and coaching activities. However, we ask ALL members to comply with Scottish Government guidelines with particular note of local health board areas which have further restrictions over the next two weeks.
ALL members please note: Travel to or from an area with Scottish Government local measures or restrictions in place to undertake sport or physical activity should where possible be avoided
We are currently reviewing our guidance on club activities and events in light of the First Minister’s announcement today. We appreciate clubs have events planned this weekend and are currently working with sportscotland to issue appropriate guidance as soon as possible. Please be patient as we seek clarification on what the new restrictions mean for orienteering, with specific focus on the local authority areas highlighted in the First Minister’s announcement.
One change to our Event Guidelines following the First Minister’s announcement about new restrictions coming into effect across Scotland is that events will be subject to a limit of 200 participants effective as of today. Please note that 200 is inclusive of organisers, officials and volunteers at the event.
Total numbers taking part in training, competition or events, should not exceed 200 people in any one day, including organisers, officials and participants. Once an individual has completed their activity, they should immediately vacate the ‘field of play’ and are then subject to normal household rules.
Following the First Minister’s announcement last Thursday we felt it was important to clarify that ‘organised sport’ is exempt from the new 6 people from 2 households guidelines which came into effect on Monday 14th September. Therefore we have been given approval from sportscotland to continue with our SOA Guidelines published on 26th August which permit local and regional events as well as club activities.
Today we launch an important support service for those affected and effected by the Covid pandemic. We recognise the impact the virus can have on our social connectedness and want to form a support network within orienteering for those that may wish to share, learn and gain support. If you have experienced Covid and are struggling with the long term impacts, please do get in touch with our volunteer-led SOA Support Network (support@scottish-orienteering.org )
While orienteering is permitted to resume events and club activities, many sports are still awaiting the opportunity to fully re-start. As a member of the Scottish Sports Governing Bodies Forum, we share this collective message from the sport sector.
We are back! Local and Regional events can resume with immediate effect! Following the First Minister’s announcement last Thursday we have worked closely with sportscotland to gain approval for the return of local and regional events.
“From the 24 August 2020 outdoor contact sport training, activity and competition in an organised setting may resume with a maximum of 30 people taking part in any one session. ”
