Familiar Scottish faces in British World Championships team

The British Team for the 2019 World Orienteering Championships has been announced, and the team includes many faces that will be familiar to Scottish Orienteers.

The women’s team includes INVOC’s Jo Shepherd, who will be running the middle and long races, plus current Scottish champion Megan Carter-Davies who will be running the middle and the relay. Edinburgh University Alumni Cat Taylor and Charlotte Watson make up the rest of the team.

It is great to see former Scottish Orienteering Performance Director FVO’s Graham Gristwood make the team again after a long injury.  He will run the relay and long race.  Joining him in the long race is Stockholm-based Scot Hector Haines.  Performance Coordinator Peter Hodkinson and South London’s Ralph Street run the middle and relay, with Yorkshire’s Matt Speake taking the remaining place.

The tough Norwegian terrain should suit our athletes, and we wish them all the best for the championships which will be held in early August.  Full team announcement here: https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/index.php?pg=news_archive&item=4795

The British senior team receive little funding from British Orienteering for these championships.  The Orienteering Foundation have set up a fundraising page to help the team meet the expenses of competing.  Any donations are very gratefully received by these talented athletes:  https://www.orienteeringfoundation.org.uk/gbr-team-at-woc-2019
