Celebrating Volunteers – Day 2 – Moravian Orienteers

With Volunteers’ Week taking place from 1-7 June, through our website we’re celebrating many of the volunteers who help make orienteering in Scotland great. Today we’re highlighting Moravian Orienteers, so thank you to their volunteers Ian Welsh and Rosie Pye!

MOR volunteer profiles

Volunteer’s Name:

Ian Welsh

Ian Welsh

How long have they been a club member?

12 years, he initially joined when his son and daughter were competing.

How do they support the club and orienteering?

Ian is our computer guru!

What makes them shine as a volunteer?

Whilst he doesn’t orienteer currently, he is at nearly all our events managing the computer team whilst also hosting our laptops and making sure all the IT is prepared for each event. He has taken our transfer from EMIT to Si in his stride. He has impeccable patience, a good sense of humour, and is excellent at teaching new people of all ages how to support at download.

Volunteer’s Name:

Rosie Pye

Rosie Pye

How long have they been a club member?

Many years!

How do they support the club and orienteering?

Rosie supports Ian at nearly all our events on computers, whilst also helping greatly at schools sessions and competitions. Because of where she lives she travels a significant distance to many of our events!

What makes them shine as a volunteer?

Like Ian, Rosie rarely orienteers but she is such a well-loved and respected member of our team. She always offers a friendly face at download and has an excellent rapport with the juniors.

A huge thank you to both of them! We’ll be profiling other volunteers throughout the week and if you want to make sure your club highlights the work of volunteers, please email denise@scottish-orienteering.org.
