2021 the year to volunteer!

As we come to the final few weeks of 2020 and we begin to reflect on all that has been achieved we again extend our sincere thanks to the countless hours of volunteers up and down the country who have made orienteering possible during the most challenging of years.

One of our core volunteers has been our President, Richard Oxlade. Due to other commitments, including his role to stage a successful Lochaber 2021 with the Scottish 6Day Company Richard has tendered his resignation for the position of President. We need some volunteers to step forward to allow us to continue to progress towards our ambitions as a SGB. We seek individuals with enthusiasm to see the sport succeed to please consider coming to work directly with the SOA to deliver on our ambitions in 2021 and beyond as we look ahead to WOC2024.

Richard steps down as President

The SOA are indebted to Richard and all he has contributed to the role of President since taking over from Roger Scrutton. Richard has implemented a wealth of tools from his consultancy experience into the operations and management of the SOA. As well as leading us through the process of writing a new strategy and facilitating sessions at the Club Get Together back in February. We are delighted that Richard will remain a Board member and has taken over as interim Operations Director.

The Board will come back together in January to discuss the recruitment of a new President to lead the organisation in 2021 and beyond. For now, our Chair, Anne Hickling, will ensure there is continuity within the Board and will pick up on additional areas, were required.

The search is on….

If you have every thought of volunteering for the SOA, 2021 could be the perfect opportunity. We are seeking enthusiastic people to support our mission to grow, develop and profile our sport. We currently have a number of vacancies which we seek notes of interest in including:

  • Welfare Director
  • Performance Director
  • President of Scottish Orienteering

If you wish to have an informal discussion about these roles or how you may be able to contribute to the SOA please do contact either Fiona@scottish-orienteering.org or Chair@Scottish-orienteering.org
