Community Conversation: The Process to getting a PVG & Child Protection Updates

We are kicking of our monthly community conversations on the important topic of Child Protection. Child Portection is everyone’s responsibility. If someone in your club/you need to join the Protecting Vulnerable Group (PVG) scheme as a coach or volunteer or have questions about the process to getting a PVG through SOA this session is for you! We will provide an update on the process and offer plenty of time to answer questions. Join us at 7.30pm on Zoom.

We will cover: Who needs a PVG? How do I/member apply for a PVG? How do I get my ID verified? We will also give na update on Child Protection within the SOA and how your club may want to incorporate any changes in their policies and processes.

Child Protection Update

SOA are in the process of reviewing our Child Welfare and Protection Policy as our last review was back in 2018. We completed the Child Welfare Standards with Children’s First and as an association we are 100% compliant. However there is alwasy work to be done to ensure our sport remains a safe space for all participants.

In 2022 we would like to work with a small number of clubs to look at updating their Child Protection processes and policies to be aligned with the new standards that were introduced in 2018. Much of the work invovled in the Standards also incorporates the concepts fo welfare and well-being, for example giving young people a voice in your club in order for them to feel included and valued. Club going through the Club Welfare and Protection Standards will be asked a series of questions, probably in a short online meeting format to guage where your club is at present and what steps the committee may wish to consider implementing over the next 12 months. We will seeking expressions of interest from clubs.
