On Saturday 25th May, close to the town of Dalbeattie, Dalbeattie Forest will host the individual event, where an abundance of rock and contour details should supply a significant challenge to participants’ orienteering skills for the Scottish Orienteering Championships.

The existing Dalbeattie Town Wood map has been updated and extended southwards towards Moyle Hill in recent months (mapped by DOLM) and the longer courses will visit areas not used since the 1980s.

The assembly area will be located just beyond the boundary of Dalbeattie town and there are many local cafes and restaurants people can enjoy in the area.  There is also the beautiful Solway coastline to visit, with particularly fine views to be gained in locations like Rockcliffe and Portling.

On Sunday 26th May, the Scottish Orienteering Relay Championships will be staged in Drumlanrig Estate, near Thornhill. To the front of the castle is open contoured terrain while, at the back, there are extensive woods and some steep hill sides. It is excellent terrain for a relay event, with fast running being possible and accurate navigation at speed being well rewarded.

We look forward to seeing you there!
