Families & cadets enjoy orienteering at Highland Adventure Fest

Families and members of the Inverness Company, part of 1 Highlanders Army Cadet Force, enjoyed their first tastes of orienteering last weekend as the sport was on show at Highland Adventure Fest in Inverness.

Orienteering appeared alongside sports such as canoeing, kayaking, fishing & cycling and – as well as learning how they can get involved in future events near Inverness and across the country – people got to try out orienteering first hand, thanks to an indoor orienteering maze.

Fiona Keir, COO of Scottish Orienteering, said of the day: “It was a great opportunity to showcase orienteering to families and outdoor enthusiasts alike, making them aware of local events and clubs. The maze went down really well, showing it’s really easy to put on simple orienteering events, even in indoor locations! Thank you to INVOC for their help making this happen – it was a great chance for us to interact with new orienteers and it would be great to do more events like this in future.

“Orienteering was a great sport to have as part of the event as it gave people – especially young children – the chance to actually get a taste of a sport and have a bit of fun on the day.”
