Great start to 2023 in Errochty with winners from 2022 awarded their trophies

What a way to start the 2023 Compass Point Scottish Orienteering League (SOL)! There was snow, some great terrain (albeit the snow hid some of the marshes a little too well) and the sun even deigned to show its face after a cold start at Errochty.

The volunteers of St Andrew’s Orienteering Club of Glasgow (STAG) were all smiles to greet everyone as they arrived in a snowy field and some even found time to build a snowman while they waited for their parents. Although some cheeky Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club (ESOC) member tried to adopt the snowman later in the day!

The Scottish Junior Orienteering Squad kept all those running (and those who were not) well stocked with their regular cake stall which will hopefully be appearing again this Sunday, when ESOC host the second SOL of 2023 in the Pentlands.

Provisional results for the event can be found here and final results will put up on the SOL page of the website later in the week.

The Trophies for the 2022 Compass Point Scottish Orienteering League were presented to all those present.

Some 2022 Trophy winners

Thank you to all the STAG members and other volunteers for all the efforts involved in staging the event with particular thanks to Graham McFadyen for planning, Terry O’Brien BEM for organising and Blair Young of TINTO for controlling the event. Many hands make light work as they say but we appreciated all those willing to stand out and help in the snow.
