Last chance to nominate for British Orienteering Awards!

Nominations for this year’s British Orienteering Awards close this Sunday – 24th Feb – giving just a few more days for you to say which of Scotland’s great clubs, coaches and volunteers deserve recognition across the whole of the UK.

Each year, the awards recognise the incredible effort and impact by people involved in orienteering, giving recognition to those whose hard work strengthens the sport.

Scottish Orienteering is encouraging everyone involved in orienteering to visit https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/awards and vote for their clubs and individuals in the following categories:

  • Club of the Year
  • University Club of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Coach of the Year
  • SILVA Award for services to orienteering

After winning the “Club of the Year” Award in 2016, Solway Orienteers said:

“Well, winning is great and to add the club’s name to a winners list that contains such excellent clubs as MAROC, Grampian, SYO and TVOC is wonderful. But we decided after our first effort when we didn’t win that it was well worthwhile for the following reasons:”

“Some of the questions prompted a major review, reinvigoration and upgrade of the club development plan, e.g. we identified the need for more coaches with the outcome of two more people being accredited in 2016.”

“Sharing the application across the club allowed members to understand the scope of our activities, and most importantly improved the feel good factor in the club: people are pleased to be part of the club as described.”

“So in many ways, to Solway Orienteers applying was more important for the club than winning. We encourage other clubs to consider and pursue applying in future years – in our view it is worth doing.”
