The website for the Sprint World Orienteering Championships 2022 has gone live, creating a base through which orienteering fans around the world can find information about the event, which takes place in Edinburgh in July 2022.

Everyone at Scottish Orienteering would like to congratulate Roxburgh Reivers for receiving their Bronze club accreditation, at the Scottish Orienteering Championships in Dumfries & Galloway last weekend.

Last year – with the kind support of Tulloch Homes – we launched our Young Orienteer of the Year Award and for 2019 this has been awarded jointly to James Hammond (FVO) and Oscar Shepherd (INVOC).

With a mixed weekend of weather, the 2019 Scottish Orienteering Championships weekend took place in Dumfries & Galloway, with the Individual Championships taking place in Dalbeattie Forest on Saturday 25th May and the Relay Championships at Drumlanrig Estate, near Thornhill, on Sunday 26th May.

In response to membership input and as part of the evolution of the SOA, the board is commissioning an SOA Competitions Calendar Review. This will be undertaken as a fixed period, paid, contracted work package.

In just over two months’ time Strathearn 2019 – the 22nd Scotttish 6 Day Event – will kick off at Auchingarrich near Comrie. So far, more than 2,000 competitors have entered each of the main days and while more than 500 entries have been received from SOA Clubs we know there are more of you still out there who are likely to enter!

Orienteering will enjoy live television coverage this summer as the JOK Chasing Sprint – which takes place at Callendar Park, Falkirk, on Friday 28 June – will be shown on TV and online, via the new BBC Scotland TV channel.

The 2019 Scottish Orienteering Association Annual General Meeting will take place at Bo’ness Academy, as part of the Sprint Scotland event on Saturday 22nd June, and you can now download minutes from the 2018 meeting plus the booklet for the 2019 meeting, which includes details on how members can vote.

The Scottish Orienteering Association is looking for nominations and applications for four key roles – a President, a Board Chair, Secretary and a Director of Performance and a secretary.

Scottish Orienteering is offering a range of courses this summer, for young and old across the country who’d like to improve their leading, coaching and first aid skills.
