Scottish orienteers selected to run for Britain at 2019 junior international races

Everyone at Scottish Orienteering says congratulations to all who have been selected to run for Great Britain in this summer’s junior international races.

Rachel Brown (ESOC), Lizzie Stansfield (FVO), Alice Wilson (CLYDE) and Matthew Gooch (MAROC) were all selected for the European Youth Orienteering Championships, to be held in Belarus in June.  This is the first British international selection for Alice and Rachel, who have both run very strongly indeed so far this year.

The pinnacle of junior international Orienteering is the Junior World Championships, and this year Grace Molloy (FVO), Eilidh Campbell (MAROC), Megan Keith (INVOC), Freddie Carcas (INT), Peter Molloy (FVO) and Finlay Todd (INVOC) made the hotly-contested team.  The races are to be held in Denmark in July.

At the end of September Matthew, Peter, Eilidh, Megan, Grace, Lizzie and Alice will travel to France to compete for Great Britain in the Junior European Cup, the final junior race of the year.

“These selections are the result of many years of training by these young athletes, and on behalf of Scottish Orienteering I commend them for their dedication; and thank the clubs and coaches for the assistance given to these and other athletes over recent years.

Best wishes to all in the races.”

Claire Ward, Scottish Orienteering Performance Director
