Scottish Success at British Sprint and Middle Championships

A small band of Scottish club members made their way down to Milton Keynes and Wendover Woods for the British Sprint and Middle Championships this weekend. There was much Scottish success from those who attended and full results can be found here: http://www.sportident.co.uk/results/2017/BritishSprintMiddle/

Saturday’s race was the sprint champs and saw everyone racing twice in a heat and a final. The heats were held in the morning in an area of grid pattern housing scheme (for M/W18+), not quite as tricky as some we get here in Scotland, but you still needed to be on top form to get into the A final which required a finish in the top 6 in your heat. The finals were held in the afternoon around the deceptively tricky Campbell Park, which also held the junior heats, with the C and B finals run before the A allowing people to spectate as the best in each category were racing.

Scottish Medal winners were:

2nd Men Open Chris Smithard (FVO)
3rd M55 Ian Maxwell (RR)
3rd M70 Phil Smiothard (KFO)
3rd W14 Rachel Brown (ESOC)
1st W16 Mairi Weir (MOR)
3rd W16 Mairi Eades (INT)
1st W50 Lorna Eades (INT)
2nd W65 Sheila Strain (ELO)
(Laura Roberston (ESOC) was 1st in Women’s Open but, as she is from New Zealand, she is not yet eligible to be British Champion)

On Sunday the action moved a little further south, to Wendover Woods, for the British Middle distance Championships. The courses had lots of controls which were mostly on point features, requiring solid navigation skills!

Scottish Medal winners were:

3rd M21 Jegor Kostylev (FVO)
3rd W16 Mairi Eades (INT)
3rd W50 Lorna Eades (INT)
2nd W70 Eleanor Pyrah (ESOC)

Congratulations to all!
