The Scottish Student Championships 2022

It has been an exciting weekend for the Scottish University orienteering clubs as the Scottish Student Championships were held for the first time in three years. The 2022 event was of particular significance as it was the first Scottish Student Orienteering Championships to be affiliated with Scottish Student Sport in 10 years. Six Universities took part in the event: Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Strathclyde and Durham as a guest University. The event was sponsored by Durty Events who provided the championships with a new trophy for the overall winning university

Day 1 Relays

On Saturday the relays took place at Bantaskine Estate and were hosted by Forth Valley Orienteering Club. Bantaskine is a mixture of parkland and woodland terrain. The format of the relays was mixed teams running an orange, light green and green leg. The universities would score points for only their first team back to enable smaller Universities to be competitive. In total 14 teams competed in the relays.

Mass Start at the Relay

Edinburgh University took a full sweep of medals at the relays with their relay teams finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd. However, as Universities only received points for their first team back, the other university teams are still in the running to claim the trophy!

Edinburgh University won the gold in Mens A and B and Womens A. Meanwhile Stirling won gold for Womens B and Glasgow won the Women’s C course.

Womens A: 3rd Emma Baird (Glasgow), 1st Mairi Eades (Edinburgh), 2nd Claire Stanfield (Glasgow)
