The Scottish Universities are Back

As we roll into September, another academic year starts giving our university clubs the opportunity to recruit new faces into the sport. All four Scottish University Orienteering clubs (Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling) have ‘give it a go’ activities planned for freshers week.

Throughout the academic year there are various opportunities for inter-university competition. Firstly there is the Scottish Student Championships in November. Any student studying at university or college in Scotland can take part in this event and represent their institution. This year Stirling University is hosting the competition with the support of the Forth Valley Orienteers. The competition is held over two days with the individuals at Kippendavie followed by the relay at the Falkirk Wheel. The relay is made up of a light green, orange and green leg to suit more experienced and newer orienteers alike.

For many newcomers this is their first larger event. The relay provides a great opportunity for students to get some relay experience for BUCS (British University College Sport). BUCS is the largest inter-university competition in the UK and is the main event in the university clubs calendar. Held around March each year, the event will take place in Sheffield this academic year.

Edinburgh University- 2023/24 BUCS Champions

Well done to the university clubs with their freshers week activities- you’re smashing it! We look forward to the Scottish University Championships.
