Junior planners workshop series

This series of workshops is for juniors who have no planning experience or have just started to do some planning and want to know more.  It will run across the following dates:

  1. Tuesday 17th January – optional Condes/Purple Pen workshop
  2. Tuesday 24th January – Workshop 1
  3. Tuesday 7th February – Workshop 2
  4. Tuesday 21st February – Optional TD3/4 workshop

The workshops will be held on Zoom and run from 7:30pm to 9pm; it is expected that delegates will attend both the workshops and that they will have access to either Condes or Purple Pen on their computer (tablets / phones are not suitable for this). There will be a planning exercise to do between each workshop date.
An optional workshop on Tuesday 17th January is to ensure that learners are familiar with the basics of using either Condes or Purple Pen. It is strongly suggested that you attend this unless you are confident using course planning software.

The trainers will decide in conjunction with the learners whether to run the optional TD3/4 workshop.

Please sign up using the registration form by Monday 16th Jan or Friday 13th if you wish to do the optional Condes /PP workshop.

Young Coach Assistant

Following the success of our first YCA course held in Stirling pre-Christmas, we are offering a North based course this time to be held on Saturday 18th February at Glenmore Lodge.

It combines theory and practical for juniors ( 14 yrs +) with some knowledge of orienteering (TD3 standard ), who are interested in helping with coaching either in a club, squad, camp or school setting. This course is an introduction to aspects of coaching and is in 2 parts:

  •  1.5 hours online (one evening during the week before the practical day)
  • A full practical day (10am – 4pm) on 18th February.
  • You are required to attend both parts to complete the course and then complete 3 sessions in your club to obtain your certificate.

The training is provided free of charge but you will be required to commit to a period of volunteering.

Please register using the form by Monday 6th February.

SQCO Level 1 coaching course 20th Feb – 3rd Apr 2023

Something for the adults (17 +) now.

This is an SQA accredited coaching qualification (SCQF L5) for active coach helpers who have attended the Coaching Foundation or Young Leaders course. Blending theory and practical in interactive tutor led sessions, this course develops the knowledge and skills to run single sessions.
The first online session will take place w/b 20th Feb with the course comprising 4 online sessions and one practical face-to-face assessment day spread over 6 weeks.  Exact dates will be decided by mutual agreement between learners and tutors – we are aware of and will work around the various events happening pre-Easter.    Pre-course tasks will be shared with the learners in late January to give ample time for completion before the course starts. Please note that this course requires attendance at every session plus preparation to be completed in between. More information on courses page

The cost of courses is usually covered by clubs in conjunction with subsidies from local sports councils and sportscotland.

Please sign up using the registration form by Monday 23rd January
