Two Bronze Medals for Grace Molloy at Junior European Cup

The Junior European Cup was held 29th September – 1st October 2017 in Fürstenfeld SE Austria. This competition gives a chance to gain some experience and see what racing at an international event is all about.

There were a number of Scots (and Scottish club members) in team GB:

M18 Freddie Carcas (INT), Eddie Narbett (EUOC), Finlay Todd (INVOC)
M20: Alex Carcas (INT/EUOC), Matt Fellbaum (EUOC)
W18: Lucy Haines (EUOC), Laura King (EUOC), Grace Molloy (FVO), Lindsay Robertson (CLYDE/EUOC)

The programme this year was Relay, Long, Sprint and with 3 days of back to back racing, as well as a trip to the model area on Thursday, it was a full on weekend for the athletes.

The relay was held on Friday in the woods next to the open air pool in the town. The highlight result of the day came from brothers Freddie and Alex Carcas, who came back from Leg 1 of the relay in 5th and 8th only around 1min back from the leaders and ahead of some other top teams like Sweden and France.

Next up was the Long on Saturday, in the lightning fast woods just north of Fürstenfeld. Grace Molloy had a superb run taking the Bronze medal position in W18, her first in an international competition! There was also a top 20 in this class for Laura King, coming 18th.

Sunday saw the final race of the weekend, a sprint around the historical part of Fürstenfeld City. Grace did the double, coming away with another Bronze medal, showing her excellent form at the moment. This was backed up by some other fantastic results. Eddie Narbett and Freddie Carcas were 6th and 7th in M18 and in W18 there was a 9th place for Laura King, 15th for Lindsay Robertson (a great result for her first international competition) and 22nd for Lucy Haines. Well done to all the athletes in the team for their achievements this weekend.
