Youth lead the way

Recently, six young people joined us for a day of training at Stirling University. They will soon be accredited Coaching Assistants – ready, able and willing to support their clubs and local squads.

The participants on this training are the first group of young people trialling our new Young Leaders Programme. The programme has 3 elements supporting young people at different stages and ages to become involved in assisting at clubs and squads. This group are training as Coaching Assistants. Following an online theory session and a practical session, each young person will now deliver practice sessions supported by their club or squad.

Some will use the practice sessions towards their Duke of Edinburgh volunteer hours and some will use it towards the Saltire Award.

If you are a young person interested in becoming a Coaching Assistant – contact suzanne@scottish-orienteering.org and register your interest for the next course. This is likely to be at Glenmore Lodge.

Thanks to Grace, Scarlett, Sam @Forth Valley Orienteers, Chloe @Tayside Orienteers, Zak @Solway Orienteers and Maja @Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club for their enthusiastic support.
