Over 100 competitors take part in Junior Inter Area Competition 2018

More than 100 junior competitors gathered in Grant Park, Forres on the weekend of 27 October to contest the 2018 inter area relay competition. The crisp Autumnal sunshine at the start of the day soon gave way to driving sleet, but this didn’t prevent the juniors from racing hard for victory.

The West team of Jamie Goddard, Andrew Twigg and Peter Molloy were back first in the Boys race, closely followed by the East and a second West team.  In the Girls race it was again the West who took the victory with Iris MacMillan, Rebecca Hammond and Lizzie Stansfield, followed by two North teams.  After the relays West had a comfortable lead, but the individual race at Roseisle on Sunday was in very different terrain, and it was the North team who excelled in the rolling forested sand dunes.  The overall results were so close that the team managers had to count them twice, but after a long wait the results were confirmed – North had beaten the West by just one point!  More important that the win though was the fun times had by all competitors.  If you are a junior who wants to know how you can get involved next year, just ask your club coach.

Many thanks to all of the helpers that made the weekend possible, especially Moravian Orienteers for the use of their areas and all of the organisational help given.
