ScotJOS 2019 squad holds inaugural training weekend in Deeside

The new ScotJOS 2019 squad held their inaugural training camp in Deeside last weekend.

It was a full on weekend which kicked off with a MapRun sprint round Ballater on Fri evening. After a few drills as warm up on Saturday there were downhill loops at Balmoral followed by a mass start 1-person multi loop relay at Cambus on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday morning, former ScotJOS athlete Sasha Chepelin gave a talk about winter training, including reflections on what he could have done better himself. The squad were then treated to an intensive running drills session led by top athletics coach Willy Russell before a final control-pick slalom down Pannanich Hill. Fair to say there were some tired bodies by the end.

Presentations of the Jim Doig medal, for the best Scottish junior performance of the year, were also made during the weekend (retrospective from 2015-present). These were presented as follows: 2015 Sasha Chepelin, 2016 Matthew Gooch, 2017 Grace Molloy and 2018 Megan Keith.
